How to calculate net value in Google Analytics 4

Our plugin for integrating Google Tag Manager in Shopware Shops passes a number of values via the data layer. These include the gross sales price, as well as taxes and delivery costs. It is precisely this data that makes it easy to calculate the net value and report it in Google Analytics 4. Here’s how it works

Here is how it works

  1. Open Google Analytics 4
  2. Click on the cog icon
  3. Under Data display, select Custom definitions
  4. Select Calculated metrics and create a new value

When you click in the Formula field, a drop-down menu appears from which you can select the values.

Add value to your Google Analytics report

To include this value in a Google Analytics report, you need to add the calculated value to the tables, as follows:

  1. Select the desired report in Google Analytics 4, e.g. Transactions or under Acquisition – Newly generated traffic
  2. Click on the pencil icon in the top right-hand corner
  3. Click on Metrics
  4. Add the custom metric you have created and click on Apply. You will then see the new column in the report preview. Now all you need to do is save the report to be able to report the new net value permanently.
